This notice applies to the Hayat app and to hayat.hdfund.org. Plain language is used throughout. If anything here is unclear, write to us and we will explain it.
Who we are
Hayat is published by the Human Development Fund. This notice explains what the app collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It covers the Hayat mobile app and this website.
Information you give us
When you create an account we ask for your name and email address. We also store what you choose to save in the app: your prayer calculation method, your target counts, the duas you add yourself, the events you save or register for, and any message you send to support.
Location
Your location is used to calculate prayer times, point you towards the qibla, and to offer travel mode when you move a significant distance. Where the device allows it, this is worked out on your phone rather than sent to us. You can refuse or withdraw location access at any time in your system settings and enter a city by hand instead.
Events
The Events section lists past and upcoming Human Development Fund events. You can browse them without sharing anything with us. If you register for or save an event, we keep that choice so we can show it in your list and send you reminders you have asked for. We do not share it with anyone outside HDF and our service providers.
Giving and donations
Donations are processed by the Human Development Fund’s payment provider. We receive a record of the gift so we can show your giving history and issue receipts. We do not receive or store your full card details.
Analytics and diagnostics
We collect aggregated usage and crash information to find problems and improve the app. What you read, recite, count or give is never used for advertising, and never sold.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. After you delete your account we remove or anonymise it within the period set out in our retention schedule.
Your rights and choices
You can ask for a copy of your information, correct it, export it, or have it deleted. Depending on where you live you may have further rights. Write to us using the details below and we will respond within the time the law allows.
Children
Hayat is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Where the change is significant we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
